Buy drum brake spare parts for your car

5.575 matching parts found

The drum brake was first used in vehicles in 1900. For 70 years it was the standard braking system. Today, the drum brake is rarely found. It is mostly still used on trailers, heavy commercial vehicles or cars with low power, mainly on the rear axle. Nevertheless, you can still find some vehicles from older years of construction in traffic today. If you also need a new drum brake for your car, you will find all the spare parts you need in our online shop. Matching your vehicle model and from well-known manufacturers, we offer a wide range of spare parts for the brake system and other areas of the vehicle. Upgrade your vehicle with new brake drums, wheel brake cylinders and other drum brake auto parts.

How the drum brake works

The great advantage of this braking system is its low-maintenance operation. Some systems only require removal of abrasion and dust at very long intervals over the course of the car's life without having to replace any components. However, the fluctuation in the coefficient of friction has a disadvantageous effect on braking. This makes it easier for the vehicle to pull sideways or swerve. Since the brake system is really the most important safety device on a motor vehicle, the new disc brake had an easy time asserting itself because there is virtually no significant fluctuation in the coefficient of friction.

Drum brakes are pure friction brakes. In this brake system, the brake pads act on a cylindrical surface (drum). They achieve the braking effect via internal, movably mounted brake shoes, which are pressed mechanically and/or hydraulically by an expanding wedge, a brake camshaft or a wheel brake cylinder onto the so-called brake anchor plate. The braking principle can also be used in reverse. With external shoe brakes, the brake pads press against the drum or the brake cylinder from the outside. However, this type of braking is only used in mechanical engineering. This system is completely out of the question for automobiles.

The different types of drum brakes and their advantages and disadvantages

The most commonly used brake type is the simplex brake. Here, the spreading of the brake shoes is usually effected by a centrally mounted, hydraulically controlled wheel cylinder. In the case of heavy vehicles and trailers, an S-cam is used to spread it. It has the same braking power forwards and backwards. The simplex brake is often also used as a parking brake.

Duplex brake
As the name suggests, the duplex brake has two individually controlled brake pads. This significantly increases the braking effect with the same braking force. The disadvantage is that the brake is considerably weaker in reverse gear.

Power brake
The servo brake has a similar structure to the simplex brake. Here, however, the brake shoes are floating. This creates self-reinforcement. However, this only works in one direction. The disadvantage also results from the different braking effect when driving forwards and backwards, similar to the duplex brake.

Both the servo and the duplex system are also available as a "duo" version. Accordingly, two mutually reinforcing wheel cylinders are used in the duo-duplex brake. The duo-servo brake has two trailing brake shoes in both directions. Accordingly, both brake systems brake evenly in forward and reverse gears. In our main category "Brake system" you will find the right spare parts for your system.

At Q-Parts24 we offer you a variety of drum brakes and spare parts from the most popular manufacturers such as TRW, Brembo, Bosch and many others. Find the right system for your vehicle and whip your brake system into shape.
