Types of hitch

There are currently 3 different solutions for towbars. The rigid, detachable and foldable towbar. The difference lies in the connection between the ball head and the base support. The cheapest solution is the rigid trailer hitch, i.e. a fixed component consisting of a ball head and carrier. Once attached, the carrier remains rigid to the rear of the vehicle, which limits mobility a bit. A more advanced variant is the detachable hitch, which allows the carrier to be removed from the ball head. This system is useful for drivers who occasionally tow a trailer and do not want the pole to interfere with parking assistance. Unfortunately, you have to reckon with somewhat higher costs. Finally, there is the most expensive, but also most effective variant for frequent trailer users. When using the foldable hitch, dismantling is completely omitted. The whole construction can be easily and practically folded away.

What to look out for with a trailer hitch

It is important to know how a trailer hitch is constructed. It consists of a ball head, usually 50mm in size, and a metal arch that connects it to the body. The entire hitch sticks out of the car. Because the trailer makes the car longer, it is important to practice driving in advance. Note that the category B driver's license allows driving with a trailer with a maximum mass of 750kg. 2 important factors when selecting the hitch are the maximum tongue load and the trailer load. If the trailer is towed, the vehicle lighting must be extended to the trailer. This requires electrical kits.
