Belt drive structure and function

The belt drive is a rubber band with a steel or fabric insert that transmits power and torque between two shafts. The main task is to transmit the engine torque via the crankshaft to the engine control and various ancillary units in order to drive them. Different types of straps

The function of the drive belt is almost the same, but there are different types. On the one hand the best-known V-belt, which runs on V-belt pulleys and has a textile cover. The raw-edge V-belt also has a longer service life and better traction. One of the most modern types of belts is the V-ribbed belt or also called flat ribbed belt. This differs from its predecessors in width, flexibility and thinness. It has several longitudinal ribs, which make it possible to reduce energy loss and thus also drive several ancillary units. In addition, smaller wrap radii and larger transmission ratios and thus protection against spinning are guaranteed.
