Depending on the installation position in the car exhaust system, a distinction is made between:

front silencer

The front muffler is the muffler closest to the engine. The front silencer is located under the underbody of the vehicle approximately at the height of the driver's footwell. It is connected to the catalytic converter on one side by a pipe, and from the other side a pipe leads under the vehicle floor to the rear of the car, with the exhaust gases passing through additional dampers. If a front silencer is defective, the sound pattern changes considerably, as with other silencers. The result is an audible rattling and an increase in noise pollution. The cause is rusted through or dented areas on the casing of the front silencer.

middle silencer

Depending on the structure, an exhaust system has two or three silencers. If there are three silencers, the one in the middle is called the middle silencer or middle pot. In terms of their structure, middle silencers are divided into absorption silencers and reflection silencers. In the absorption silencer, the exhaust gases are guided through a material such as glass wool, which absorbs part of the sound pressure and thus reduces noise pollution. Damage to a center silencer is mainly caused by corrosion, because the entire exhaust is constantly exposed to harmful influences such as moisture, road salt and gravel. This creates rust, which later leads to holes in the housing. The clearest sign of damage to the center silencer is changes in the sound of the car.

rear silencer

Part of the exhaust system and various mufflers, the rear muffler is one of the final components that exhaust gases pass through before being blown out. The rear silencer is located at the rear of your car and is connected to the front silencer via a pipe on one side and to the tailpipe on the other side. The constant vibrations, corrosion caused by road salt and other environmental influences as well as mechanical damage and frequent heating and cooling can cause cracks and holes in the rear muffler, like all other muffler parts.

The appearance of the mufflers is almost the same in all cases. A tube with a larger center piece. In this part, the exhaust sound is dampened in different ways. A distinction is made between reflection silencers, interference silencers, absorption silencers and resonance silencers. It is also possible to combine different methods in order to be able to cover an even larger frequency. This means that exhaust silencers can be combined into one silencer using various methods or used individually. One feature to look out for is density. Exhaust gases should not escape into the interior of the vehicle and thus pose a hazard. That's why we recommend checking your vehicle regularly and, in the worst case, having to buy new exhaust silencers. We at Q-Parts24 offer you the best quality automotive parts from well-known manufacturers for your car exhaust system.

Function of the exhaust silencer

Exhaust silencers are divided into three types of dampers and are part of the equipment of the car exhaust system. The main function of the muffler is to reduce the volume at which the exhaust gases leave the vehicle. The exhaust gases produced after the combustion process are in the combustion chamber and are under high pressure. When the valves are opened, the gases are pushed out with a sound level of 100dB(A). In order to prevent the loud bang and to protect the human ear, exhaust silencers are used. By law, these must reduce the level to 75 dB(A). They work by slowing down the exiting exhaust gases and creating back pressure. This in turn can have a bad effect on the engine and reduce its performance. Our exhaust muffler range includes quality mufflers that reduce noise to the maximum and affect your engine performance to a minimum.
