Classic incident when driving a car: You start your vehicle and notice that one of the two headlights is no longer working. There is a very high probability that it is simply because the light bulb has burned out. How an incandescent lamp works
First, the light bulb is made to glow by a metallic conductor. Because the filament is made of a special material called tungsten, it doesn't start to melt. Tungsten has an extremely high melting point of 3400 °C and is therefore the perfect material for the filament. When glowing, the light bulb emits electromagnetic radiation, which is perceived as heat. Only around 2.2% of the energy is emitted as light and is essential for use in the headlight. Despite the inefficiency just mentioned, it is the advantages, such as cheap purchase or easy replacement, that will keep the light bulb alive in the future.
