What do additives do?

Many drivers are not aware of the importance of additives. Additives can make a decisive contribution to the longer service life of your vehicle. In general, additives have various properties that ensure the functionality of your car. These are liquids that are added to engine oil, transmission oil, fuel or coolant to either protect components from dirt and debris or to efficiently stretch the original liquid.

One of the most important additives for diesel vehicles is the diesel system cleaner Adblue. This is a mixture of urea and demineralized water. Adblue converts the environmentally harmful nitrogen oxide into water vapor and nitrogen in a catalytic converter. The effect: Diesel becomes a 90% environmentally friendly fuel. So without Adblue your car is not functional. Therefore, make sure that you always have enough of the urea solution in stock. If not, buy additives online and fill them into your tank yourself.

Additives are already added to fuels and motor oils in the refinery. Without their addition, they would not be functional. The fuel additive is therefore the elixir of life for your car. However, as a car driver, you have no influence on this type of additive. But there is also a second type of additive. These are those extras that every motorist can add independently on the recommendation of the provider. These serve to clean the components of your car from the inside or to make the fuel more functional.

The leak detection agent is also an additive. This is mainly used when checking the air conditioning of your car. For this purpose, a contrast agent is added to the refrigerant, which can use a UV lamp to identify unwanted openings in lines and components. The leak detection agent is a cheap alternative to electronic leak detection with a detector.

Another type of additives are oil additives, which are added to engine oil. The oil additives serve to eliminate deposits in the engine and to ensure higher engine performance. Radiator additives are also used daily in workshops to identify leaks in the radiator.
