History of Bugatti

Ettore Bugatti founded the Bugatti automobile brand in Molsheim in Alsace in 1909. Bugattis quickly became one of the most successful racing cars of their time and were also legendary and coveted as sports cars and limousines. After the accidental death of Jean Bugatti, the founder's son, in 1939, the company encountered increasing problems. The destruction of the plant in World War II also contributed to the decline. 1963 finally saw the end of the Bugatti brand for the time being. After an initial attempt at revival in 1987 with Bugatti Automobil SpA in Italy by Romano Artioli, Bugatti has belonged to Volkswagen AG since 1998. Since then, the Molsheim plant has operated as Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. and with the Bugatti Veyron, which has a top speed of over 400 km, is building the world's fastest production vehicle to date.
